Some legacies are inherited. Others are stitched together over time. Growing up, hats were never just accessories in our house – they were a way of life. Every Sunday morning, I watched my mother carefully shape, trim, and style hats at the kitchen table before church. Ribbons, feathers, and felt would slowly transform into something special right before my eyes.
But her talent didn’t appear out of nowhere. She learned it from her mother, my grandmother. My mother was known throughout the church community for her hats. Women would stop her after service asking, “Where did you get that hat?” Soon enough, she was making them for friends, neighbors, and anyone who wanted a little extra style on Sunday morning.
Without even realizing it, millinery chose me. Along the way, I had the privilege of being mentored by Mr. Heller, whose guidance sharpened my craft and deepened my appreciation for the artistry, precision, and tradition of fine hatmaking.
Today, I am honored to carry that legacy forward as a third-generation hatter. What began with my grandmother, was nurtured by my mother and continues through my hands, guided by a shared passion for craftsmanship, creativity, and community. Three generations. One enduring love for hats. And a legacy that’s still being shaped.

At Haus of Hersh, we don’t believe in mass production, only meaningful creation.
Each year, we accept a limited number of custom hat commissions. Not to be elusive, but to be intentional. Every piece we create requires time, precision, and an uncompromising level of artistry and that simply can’t be rushed.
By keeping our production small, we ensure that every hat receives the attention it deserves… and that every client receives an experience that feels personal, elevated, and truly one-of-one.

Start by telling us what you’re dreaming up. A vibe, a feeling, a look, bold, minimal, western, glam, or completely one-of-one. No idea is too much.
2. The Design Call with Hersh
Next, you’ll have a one-on-one virtual session with Hersh himself.
This is where we get to know you, your style, your energy, your statement.
You can bring inspiration from past designs or come with a blank slate, we’ll build it together.
3. Build Your Crown
Now we design your hat, detail by detail:

- Color & tone
- Bands, textures, and signature elements

4. Secure Your Spot
Haus of Hersh creates bespoke hat experiences tailored to each client’s vision. Custom projects generally begin at $1,200, with most ranging from $1,200 to $5,000 depending on quantity, materials, and design specifications.
A non-refundable 50% retainer is required to begin your piece and secure your place in production.
While it is always our goal to exceed our customers’ expectations, due to the fully customized nature of each hat, all sales are final. Haus of Hersh does not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges once your custom hat production has begun or the item has been completed.
5. Watch It Come to Life
Your hat is created step-by-step, with your input along the way. We’ll check in during key stages to make sure every detail is exactly right.
6. Final Touches & Delivery
Once your hat is complete, it’s refined, finished, and ready for its moment.
Final payment is made, and your custom piece is shipped directly to you.

Use a cloth tap measurer (or a 30″ string + ruler):
- Wrap it around your head just above your ears and eyebrows
- Keep it snug but not tight
- Note the measurement in inches or centimeters
